Governance

Mayfield Grammar School, Gravesend – an Academy Trust

The Company

MGSG acquired Academy status in 2012.  As a result, the school is able to take advantage of the flexibility offered by academy status.  MGSG Academy Trust is the charitable company limited by guarantee for which the governing body at MGSG reports.  Registered in England: 07900248.

The Trust’s audited accounts are available at the bottom of this page.

In order to achieve our educational aims, the school is committed to the principles of best value through each activity that we undertake.

Governors

School governors are volunteers who are appointed or elected to their position.  Their key roles are to set the strategic direction of the school, to challenge the school and to work with the school’s leadership team in order to secure high standards of achievement and care for students.

Together they identify and introduce strategies that lead to the highest quality education.  Governors also set and monitor targets, the school budget and the effectiveness of policies to ensure that all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum.

Members of the governing body are appointed from a variety of sources to ensure it benefits from a wide range of skills, strengths and experience.  At least two of these are parent governors – elected by parents and carers of pupils at the school.

Governors serve for four years and provide vital links between the school and the community.

The work of the governing body is carried out through three key committees:  Finance & Premises, Curriculum & Staffing, and Student Affairs, Community & Admissions.  Each of which meets at least three times annually.  All governors are expected to serve on at least one committee and attend all Full Governing Body meetings, which take place three times a year.

Communications to the Governing Body should be sent to the Clerk to the Governors at enquiries@mgsg.kent.sch.uk or by post to the school address.
